The Association for Co-operative Education BC / Yukon is pleased to announce the recipient of the Industry Partner of the Year Award for 2016: Parks Canada.
The University of Victoria nominated the Parks Canada team for their long-standing and exceptional commitment to the development of Co-op students. In the last three years, Parks Canada has posted over 100 opportunities which resulted in 90+ UVic students being hired in a range of areas from resource conservation officer to visitor services and from marketing to research and analysis. Students recognised the atmosphere at Parks Canada as challenging, supportive and provided excellent opportunities for professional growth. Many current supervisors and employees are previous Co-op students. They are keen to help students make connections between their courses, their work and their future. Regularly Parks Canada staff comes on campus to speak at events, participate in courses and Mock Interview sessions. As one student stated:
“Working for Parks Canada was great because they allowed me to take responsibility for my own projects which developed my accountability and drive to create high quality work in which I was invested. Parks Canada also gave me connections with an outstanding group of individuals with diverse backgrounds who have shaped my future choices and aspirations for my career.”
