Nominated by the University of Victoria, BCI has been hiring students from the university since 2012, with 45 hires in the last three years and from across all of UVic’s program areas. Further, they have more than doubled their hiring in the last two years, with 11 students in 2016 and 27 in 2017. BCI has supported co-op not just at UVic but at institutions across BC. Since 2016, students from UVic, UBC, SFU, VIU, BCIT and Camosun have completed 102 co-op work terms.

BCI staff members have regularly participated in mock interviews across program areas at both UVic and Camosun, facilitated networking events on a variety of sub-interests, including women in finance, and offering a for-credit course on applied investment. They are always willing and able to offer students feedback and support, before they even become BCI employees. They give students work that links directly to their academics and career goals and provide opportunities to learn and grow, while also giving them the tools and training to excel in that work – exactly the kind of employer we hope for in co-op.

BCI supports students through formal orientation, training, and networking, and offer mentorship, guidance, and opportunities to build on their competencies. They then go the extra mile to support programs by contributing to in-house initiatives.

“My time with BCI was the best work experience I have had yet. BCI provided me with more responsibility as a co-op student than I could have imagined. They provided me with development opportunities that are far above those offered by other co-op student employers, and offer challenging projects to stretch your abilities.”
