Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECU) is a learning community devoted to excellence and innovation in visual arts, media arts, and design. Our vision is to be a worldwide centre of excellence in art, design, and media education and research.

As part of our Work Integrated Learning program, ECU offers co-op opportunities and field placements. Our students can complete specific projects or provide general assistance to a wide range of partners, including large and small businesses, non-profit organizations, arts-based organizations, and the public sector. Co-op opportunities are available to third and fourth year undergraduate students and can be full-time or part-time. Co-op students receive credits for successfully completed work terms.

Emily Carr supports art, design and media focused placements that can provide mentorship and a professional context for emerging artists to apply their skills outside of the classroom, and gain valuable connections within their field.

Our students have skills in curation, applied art, community engagement, event planning, research, graphic design, product design, social media, video editing, website development, writing and much more. Placements are paid and typically run the duration of a 4-month semester, depending on the needs of the organization and the availability of the student.

ECU also offers opportunities in Applied Research, Service Learning, and Entrepreneurship for more information please feel free to contact us in the Career Development + Work Integrated Learning Office.
