Through academic courses and Clinical Placements, the Sonography program is primarily focused on preparing its students to be competent and committed medical professionals, who have a clear understanding of their role within the health professions arena.
The Sonography program is composed of three semesters of theory with hands-on labs, conducted at the Prince George campus. The Sonography Lab has eight bays, composed of Phillips, GE and Toshiba machines. Students also complete a Clinical Simulation Lab as part of Clinical Term 1, where they complete the full ultrasound exam with volunteer patients, prepared requisitions and tech sheets.
Guided by the Canadian National Competency Profile for the sonography profession, didactic and laboratory instruction is designed and executed with the sole intention of producing competent and proficient Sonographers. The program is Accredited by EQual Canada.
Students spend the last nine months (Jan.-Sept.) of the program completing three clinical practicums at various sites throughout British Columbia and the Yukon. The final clinical ends mid-September each year and students are able to work immediately as Sonographers. They write their credentialing exams in the January after graduation, through Sonography Canada.
